Tyro has restored the Battle Records held in the paintings, protecting the world from a terrible threat from beyond. Now as their investigation continues, they discover an ominous magic emanating from mysterious Corrupted Paintings. But these paintings do not hold Battle Records like the others. These new paintings hold Story Records chronicling the adventures of great heroes from across the realms.
The elements of wind, water, earth, and fire, embodied by the four Crystals, once brought balance and prosperity to the world. Now, a preternatural paradox throws the forces of nature into disarray, threatening to engulf the land in darkness. Although fear grips the populace, hope remains in a prophecy:
"When darkness veils the world, four Warriors of Light shall come."
One fateful day in the kingdom of Cornelia, four young travelers arrive with no memory of their past, each clutching a Crystal. Could they truly be the prophesied Warriors of Light?
Led by the light of the Crystals, they venture forth to restore peace to the realm; the first of their trials a battle with a fell knight. Little do they realize that this is only the beginning of an adventure that transcends time and space.
The ruthless emperor of Palamecia leads his demonic armies across the land, laying waste to all in his path. One by one the nations fall, and those without the will to resist are forced into servitude. When the conflict reaches the borders of Fynn, its people choose to fight, and are all but annihilated. After the loss of Castle Fynn, the survivors flee to nearby Altair, where the rebellion makes a temporary headquarters.
Among the survivors are Firion, Maria, and Guy; rescued by the rebel leader Princess Hilda and the white mage Minwu. Though young and implusive, they gain Hilda's trust and are allowed to join her battle against the empire. While the road ahead may be paved with loss and sacrifice, each victory brings them closer to reclaiming their homeland.
The Gulgan thus prophesied:
"The earthquake was only the beginning.
The great tremors that swallowed the crystals, the light of our world, only to spawn monsters from the depths of the scarred land, are nothing but harbingers of what has yet to come. Something is coming...fathomless, ominous, and full of sorrow...
